Fittings of type B according to PN-EN 10253-2 have diversified wall thickness in opposite to type A. If so, what would be the difference in modeling those fittings for hoop stress category according to PN-EN 13480 in Autopipe?
How to consider the pressure factor for Type A fittings as per EN-10253-2 in Annexure A & B?
From our understanding, Type B fittings as per EN 10253-2 may have fitting body wall thickness which is slightly higher than that of the connecting pipes. This would mean that there will be a certain tapering of the wall thickness that would occur across the fitting. As of March 2025, AutoPIPE cannot model a tapered wall thickness for a component. Consider the following avoidance:
1. Use the connecting pipe wall thickness for the component and to account for the additional weight of the component insert distributed load
2. Use the thicker fitting wall thickness for the fittings by defining a different Pipe ID
3. The analysis results (as well as stress results) may vary depending on which wall thickness is being used for the components, so it may be a good idea to analyze the system for both of these conditions so that the most conservative solution could be reached
As of March 2025, there is no method to account for the pressure factor for type A EN10253-2. However, we are calculating the thickness of the fittings according to EN13480-3. Please refer to the article link here for a comparison of the thickness of the fittings as per both EN13480-3 and EN10253-2.
As per my investigation we are not considering pressure factors for Type A fittings from EN 10253-2 in EN 13480 code.
Please refer the Help section> Reference information > Code compliance calculation > EURO EN 13480(2017+2021) > Hoop stress (EN13480-2021) for more details on Hoop stress calculation and factors considered in Autopipe. As shown in screenshot below:
