Problem:

All the SIFs calculated automatically by AutoPIPE are in accordance with the manual calculation except for the bends. Why?

Answe:

Be sure that the calculations adhere to all the code calculation notes. Example, per ASME B31.3-2010, Appendix D, welding elbow, Notes: 2, 4-7.

All the SIFs calculated automatically by AutoPIPE are in accordance with the manual calculation except for the bends. Why?
Note: most hand calculations do not consider note 7 and thus show a difference with AutoPIPE results. Correctly applying the factor from note 7 generally accounts for the difference.
