Error Message

Document is checked out by another user. You cannot check in or free documents that are checked out by another user. ‘<path to file>’ will be opened as ‘Read Only’.

Explanation

When attempting to launch the product, user receives the above error message and InRoads locks up.  This issue occurs because the default configuration specified in File > Project Options has as path defined to an XIN file that is unavailable.

Solution

The following steps can be used to correct this issue:

  1. Grant temporary administrative privileges to the user.
  2. Log in to Windows using the user's account.
  3. Open the Windows Registry Editor by typing in "regedit" in the search bar of the Windows Start Menu.  Click on the program, regedit.exe.
  4. In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bentley\InRoadsGroup\Applications\Version 8.11\DefaultPaths
  5. Highlight the folder DefaultPaths, right-click, and select Delete from the dropdown menu.
  6. Select Yes when prompted to "Confirm Key Delete".
  7. Close out of the Registry Editor and re-launch InRoads.
  8. Any previously created configurations will need to be re-configured.
