Problem:

If components are clipped, they are not displayed at all in cross sections.

Solution:

Go to Tools>Application Add-ins.  Toggle on "Variable Manager Add-in".  Next go to Tools>Variable Manager and toggle on "Use Mesh Algorithm for Cross Section Components" which is in the Command Behavior section.

This variable enables an alternate method (mesh generation) when displaying components in cross sections. It eliminates the need for the cross section path to cross all features that make up a component's edges.  In essence, "clipped" components will now display.  There is a limitation - this variable has no effect on overlay component display.
