ProjectWise InterPlot Server Products Registration and SES Activation

Introduction

This information is specific to the 10.00.02.xx release of the ProjectWise InterPlot server products.  This is the first InterPlot release to use Bentley’s newest software licensing technology, the Subscription Entitlement Service (SES).  SES replaces Bentley SELECTserver.

SES licensing can be used with both desktop and server applications. When SES is used with desktop applications, SES obtains the current user identity from the CONNECTION Client to facilitate license requests. However, most server applications run on unattended server computers where it is unlikely to have an interactive logged-in user.  To facilitate SES licensing, InterPlot Server and driver products now have additional required steps during software installation to assist with SES licensing.   This document gives instructions on how to perform the needed registration and product activation.

Applicable products:

After executing the product single file installer, post installation instructions are displayed explaining how to perform server registration and product activation. What follows describes these steps in detail.

At the end of the installation and before restarting the machine, startup of the Activation Wizard will prompt you to log into the Bentley Login Client. Be aware the login dialog may open in the background behind other dialogs. You will need to log in with an administrator authorized to manage your organization’s licenses. A CONNECTION Client sign-in is not necessary and should be ignored.

After signing into the Bentley Login Client, exit the login dialog using the X in the upper right corner.

Closing the Bentley Login Client dialog will start the Activation Wizard GUI in server mode, allowing you to register the server or activate one or more server products. Be aware this dialog may open in the background behind other dialogs.

Select the 'Register Server' option and click next.

The Activation wizard will auto-populate the machine name and provide a drop down of valid usage countries for your organization. Choose the Country that matches the location of the physical server. For InterPlot server products, the “Allow users outside of <organization> to use server” option is not required, because it is not doing client On Behalf Of entitlements/usage and instead is only doing entitlements for the server product itself.

Once all the information is correct, click next.

The red text at the bottom shows “Server Mode” is on, and server registered successfully.

You can now activate your entitled InterPlot server product by entering the product name and selecting the checkmark on the right.

After selecting Next, the status of the activated product will display.

Selecting Close will conclude server registration and product activation.

You should restart the machine at this time to complete the setup.

If additional InterPlot server products are to be installed, reregistering the server is not necessary. Proceed to activate each additional InterPlot server product.

If an Activation Watermark is published, reinstall the InterPlot server product and follow the above instructions. A watermark indicates the server is not registered or the product is not activated and okay to run.

Use the License Management Tool on the server to verify product Entitlement and Status.

If you have issues registering a server or activating an InterPlot server product, please log a Service Request.

To replace the credentials used to register the server and activate products:

Refer to the instructions at the top of the page. Use the new replacement credentials to sign into “Bentley Login Client”.
