When running the Annotate Cross Section command, first verify the objects (components and/or crossing features) are being displayed in the cross section. If not sure if the components/features are being displayed in the cross section, use the Update Cross Section command to verify.  Evaluation > Cross Section > Cross Sections > Update Cross Section. If the features are still not displaying, please see Displaying Crossing Features in Cross Section Sets wiki post.

Once the features are being displayed in the cross section, return to the Annotate Cross Section command. Evaluation > Cross Section > Cross Sections > Annotate Cross Section > Select the correct cross section set > under the General Leaf, select the surface >

IF...

... annotating Points: Select the Points folder > toggle on “Include Points” at the top > mark the boxes desired to annotate > symbology and format is defined in this table as well > Apply.   (When annotating “Points”, this will annotate all the triangle vertices in the surface selected.)

... annotating Segments: Select the Segments folder > General Leaf > toggle on “Include Segments” at the top > mark the boxes desired to annotate > symbology and format is defined in this table as well.  If you would like to annotate all the segments in the surface line, hit "Apply".

Otherwise, after selecting to annotate Segments, move to the Annotate Leaf > Select at least two features for the command to annotate between > Apply.  If this field is blank, then no components are being displayed.  Return to the Update Cross Section portion of the Cross Sections dialog and display the components.

... annotating Features: Select the Features folder > General Leaf > toggle on “Include Features” at the top > mark the boxes desired to annotate > symbology and format is defined in this table as well.

After selecting to annotate Features, move to the > Annotate leaf > Select the features for the command to annotate > Apply.

If the features do not show up in the list for Features, return to the Update Cross Section portion of the Cross Sections dialog and verify the feature is displayed in the cross section.

If the feature is gray then the style needs to be edited in the style manager to annotate in the cross sections. (toggle on Annotate under Cross Section Display)

If this feature name is red, then the feature style is not defined in the style manager.  At this time, the style must be created in the style manager so the feature(s) can be displayed in the cross section set or the style name can be changed under Surface > Feature > Feature Properties.

The style may be created by going to Tools > Style Manager.  Once in the Style Manager, the exact style name must be created that was used for the feature.

Once all the styles/symbologies have been verified, return to the Annotate Cross Section command to annotate them.
