Question

There are two settings for "compress client/server request data." One is at the datasource level and the other is a user setting. If I uncheck the one at the datasource level, does the one at the user level still work?

Answer

Both the user setting and the datasource setting "compress client/server request data" are on by default.

If you uncheck the "compress client/server request data” at the datasource level it will turn the feature off for all users. (Right click on the datasource \ properties \ settings \ network)

If you want to only turn it off or on for specific users, leave the datasource setting on, and use the user setting to turn it off and on for individual users.  (Right click on the user account \ properties \ settings \ network)

This information was taken from the Projectwise Administrator Help.

“Data compression is the ProjectWise technology that improves performance over networks with high latency / low bandwidth connections by compressing the data that is being sent to or retrieved from the ProjectWise database. The data is then decompressed when it reaches its destination. Performance improvements will be most noticeable with large amounts of data (for example, thousands of documents in a folder) across high latency / low bandwidth connections. Turning on this user setting enables data compression for this user. For data compression to work, the datasource setting of the same name must also be turned on, which enables data compression for all ProjectWise Explorer and Administrator clients connected to this datasource.”
