Question :

How to import field book data that is NOT in a txt or csv format?

Answer:

The field book data in a ctl format or any other format other than .txt or csv can be drag -n-dropped in the "Survey" panel of "Project Explorer". For csv or txt, you will have to use the "Text Import Wizard". Right click on a new filed book "Load > File Using Text Import Wizard".
