Error or Warning Message

Last Error 58040 folder Copy Failed. Access Denied. You have insufficient privileges to finish this operation.

Explanation

In this scenario a user was copying a folder that included subfolders and documents from one location to another in ProjectWise.

When the copy folder dialog box comes up, there are some options in the advance tab that the user had checked on.

How to Avoid

Option 1: Copy access control

  1. If you need the "copy access control" turned on then:

    1. In order to ‘copy access control’ the user would need to have the ‘change permissions’ permission in the destination folder (for folder and document security). In other words to copy access control you need the change permissions in the destination folder so that you can change the permissions on the folder and files as they are being copied. This is because you are essentially creating a new folder and documents and setting the security. If you don’t have change permissions, then you can’t change the permissions on the files and folders being copied to replicate what they were in the source folder.

Option 2: Copy folder workflow

  1. The User would need the change permission as above.
  2. And since there is a workflow involved the user would also need to have create and write permissions in each state of the workflow.

Option 3: Take Ownership

  1. In the copy dialog, in the advanced tab, if the user chooses to take ownership then they do not need the change permission in the destination folder.
