This Document deliniates the workflow required to Migrate the SMD Features into OpenRoads Designer.
The referenced conversion utilities can be found in the Organization-Civil directory (C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenRoads Designer CE\Configuration\Organization-Civil\Migration Utilities)

Create the MDB from the SMD file
- Open any version of GEOPAK SS2
- Open the GEOPAK Survey Preference Editor:
- User Preferences > Feature Preferences > Edit SMD File
- Load the SMD file for conversion
- Execute - File > Save As > Microsoft Access Database (need GEOPAK for this step)
Converting the SMD to Element Templates
- 1. Double-click on the Civil_Elementtemplate_Utility.exe file. This executable is in a different Migration Utilities folder. This executable is typically located here:
- C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenRoads Designer CE\Configuration\Organization-Civil\Migration Utilities
- 2. Toggle on the GEOPAK SMD Exported to MDB Toggle
- 3. Select the MDB Options
- a. Item Name – Uses the SMD item Name for the Element Template Names
- b. Item Description - Uses the SMD item Description for the Element Template Names
- c. Item Name + Description - Uses the SMD item Name & Description for the Element Template Names (This is the preferred option which will yield the best results)
IMPORTANT ** Select the Option before you load the MDB
- 4. Pick the magnifying glass to select and load the MDB file
- 5. Pick “Export to Excel Spreadsheet File” to review and modify your Element Templates or select “Export to Element Template XML File” to create a file to load into OpenRoads Designer

Converting the SMD to Feature Symbologies and Feature Definitions
- 1. Double-click on the SMDfeatures_to_ORDfeatures.exe file
- 2. Toggle on the Load Feature Name from Option a. Item Name – Uses the SMD item Name for the Feature Symbology & Feature Definition Names
- b. Item Description - Uses the SMD item Description for the Feature Symbology & Feature Definition Names
- c. Item Name + Description - Uses the SMD item Name & Description for the Feature Symbology & Feature Definition Names
- IMPORTANT **Select the Option before you load the MDB
- IMPORTANT **Use the same option used for the Element Templates
- 3. Pick the magnifying glass to select and load the MDB file
- 4. Pick the “Export to XML” button to create the Feature Symbology & Feature Definition XML files to be imported into OpenRoads Designer
Note: This will create 2 xml files.

Preparing dgnlib for ORD
- Open your SS2 dgn and export the Levels and Custom Linestyles (if any)
- Create a dgnlib in ORD with no workset with the correct units (English or metric)
- Make sure dgnlib has access to survey cells (ms cell list) and linestyles (import linestyles)
- Add _civil_standards_importexport = 1 variable to your config
- Add CIVIL_PROJECTSETTINGSDGNLIBLIST > $(CIVIL_ORGANIZATION_STANDARDS)Dgnlib/Feature Definitions/*Survey_Settings*.dgnlib variable to your config
- Open dgnlib in ORD
- Import levels and linestyles
- Import element template xml
- Import feature symbologies xml
- Import feature definitions xml
- Create survey settings
