SELECTserver provides a group policy template that can be applied on a domain controller running Windows Server 2008 or later. This support solution provides instructions for implementing and configuring it.

Background

Active Directory Group Policy provides an elegant way to propagate and enforce application settings on client machines. SELECTserver provides template files that can be implemented and configured on a domain controller. This support solution focuses on the ADMX format used by Windows Server 2012 or later.

Steps to Accomplish

To implement the group policy administrative template, please perform the following steps on the domain controller:

  1. Download the SELECTserver ADMX template file from Bentley Communities. Note that you must be signed into Bentley Communities to download content. If a blue Download button is not present, click the little person icon in the upper corner, enter a Bentley login when prompted, and then navigate back to the previous page. A blue Download button should now be visible.
  2. Expand the zip archive, and save enclosed files to the following locations:
    BentleyLicensing.admx - C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions
    BentleyLicensing.adml - C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\en-US
Note: If you have a group policy central store, you may need to save them in C:\Windows\SYSVOL\<domain name>\Policies\PolicyDefinitions and the en-US folder within instead.
  3. Open the Group Policy Editor by navigating to the Windows Start screen or menu and performing a search for:
    Group Policy Management
  4. Navigate to the specific domain, and expand Group Policy Objects.
  5. Right-click the object to modify, and select Edit from the contextual menu.
  6. In the Group Policy Management Editor that appears, expand Computer Configuration followed by Policies, Administrative Templates, and Bentley Systems.
  7. Select Licensing.
  8. On the right pane, select a group of settings to configure.
  9. Choose the Enabled radio button, specify the desired settings, and click the OK button to save changes. The changes will be propagated to machines covered by the Group Policy Object.
