Bentley User Registration

Why is this important to me?

As Bentley moves forward with Subscription Entitlement Service to replace SELECTserver, all application users need to be registered with our Identity Management System (IMS) so that they can sign in to activate the application. Users can either be registered by an administrator or by the users themselves as described below.

User registration by an administrator

Administrators have a couple of options for adding users:

  1. If adding only a handful of users via the User Management portal as needed, refer to the following instructions.
  2. For adding a larger group of users, consider our bulk operations method which adds users from a provided CSV file instead.
  3. If all your users are utilizing an email domain under your exclusive control, consider claiming the domain via the Domains page on the User Management portal so that users can register themselves. By default, users registering themselves with your email domain will await administrator approval on the Pending Approvals page before being added to User Management. To automate this process, consider enabling auto-approval.
  4. We also offer the integration of IMS with your own login server (i.e. identity provider) such as Microsoft Azure AD or Okta, sometimes referred to as Single Sign-on (SSO) or federation. Users signing in with federation will be automatically created in User Management if not yet present. To learn more about this solution, refer to our Federation homepage.

InformationImportant: User registration by an administrator is preferred since new users will be automatically associated to your organization and its licenses. If users register themselves with an unclaimed email domain, they will not be associated to any organization initially until an administrator associates them via the User Management portal.

When an administrator adds users individually or in bulk via the User Management portal, end users will receive an email titled "Complete your Bentley Systems profile" like the example below:

Users can click the "Verify Profile" link in the email to complete the registration process by creating a password. Alternatively, users can complete the process by navigating to https://ims.bentley.com. In either case, end users should perform the following steps:

  1. Enter an email address, and click the Next button.
  2. Click the Send Request button on the following screen:

  3. A verification code will be sent to the email for security with an email subject of "Verification Code from Bentley" as shown below:

  4. Enter the verification code from the email on the web page, and click the Verify button:

  5. Create a new password, and click the Complete Account Registration button:

User registration by end users

End users can register themselves with the following steps:

  1. Visit https://ims.bentley.com and click the registration link at the bottom:

  5. You can optionally test the credentials now if you want.

InformationImportant: If registering yourself with an email domain that has not been claimed by your administrator, you may initially have no access to licenses until an administrator associates you. To check, navigate to https://ims.bentley.com, sign in with your new IMS login, and note on the profile page that appears whether the Account Name attribute is populated as shown below. If blank, contact your administrator for further assistance.
