Usage calculation MS/J

On April 1, 2018, a change in the usage policy for predecessor products occurred.

Problem

How is the usage of MS/J (version 7) calculated since then?

Solution

MicroStation/J was initially released in December 1998 but the underlying platform has had many generational version updates (V8, V8i {Select Series 1 -4}, and CONNECT Edition) in the last two decades. While it is common practice for software companies to discontinue technical support for legacy products that are over 10 years old, Bentley is committed to supporting MicroStation/J to ensure your ongoing success. To allocate appropriate resources for sustained support of this version, we are making changes to your SELECT Subscription fees.

Important Notice:

The way MicroStation/J is licensed does not change.

The product requires a msj.lic (text) license file and looks for "License string [name]", not a product ID.
The new separate product ID 6069 for MicroStation/J is used only for reporting usage for the purpose of separate billing.

Examples:

For the purposes of the usage examples referenced below, assume that you have 20 perpetual licenses of MicroStation covered under SELECT and 5 active pre-paid annual subscriptions of MicroStation, for a total of 25 covered MicroStation seats.

Our goal is to ensure that your organization remains competitive and receives the greatest possible value from your investment in Bentley software by leveraging the latest technology. We recognize your organization may not be able to make changes to legacy applications that are essential to your projects continuing without disruption; however, we are ready to help you migrate to the latest version of MicroStation or the applications that run on MicroStation/J. Again, thank you for the usage of our products. We appreciate your business and want to continue to serve you as efficiently and effectively as possible.
