Problem Description

When signing in to the CONNECTION Client the following error occurs:

Steps to Resolve

Checking the UAC Setting

The issue is typically due to using the CONNECTION Client on a shared environment/server where multiple users are remoting in or logging on simultaneously using Remote desktop or Citrix. To resolve you have to enable UAC (User Account Control) to any setting except for never notify.

Checking if CONNECTION Client is running Elevated

No user can run the CONNECTION Client in elevated mode (Run as administrator). If that happens no other user can access the resource even with UAC enabled.

Under the Windows Task Manager check to see if CONNECTION Client or "Bentley.Licensing.Service.exe" is running "Elevated" -

  1. Open Task Manager as an administrator to ensure processes for all users are visible.
    1. Do a Windows Start Menu Search: Type "Task Manager,"
    2. Right-click the result and choose "Run as administrator".
  2. Click on the "Details" tab.
  3. Add the Elevated column (if necessary), by right-clicking on one of the column headers, choosing "Select columns" from the contextual menu, and selecting Elevated from the list that appears.
  4. End any instances of Bentley.Licensing.Service.exe or Bentley.Connect.Client.exe with an Elevated value of Yes, or have any administrators log off of the host machine instead of suspending the session.
  5. Check if you have multiple instances of "Bentley.Connect.Client.exe" is running - If more than one instance is running, kill the process not associated with the correct Username.

You can also look in the UAC virtualization column to see if a process in the Name column is running elevated or not -

Not allowed = Running as administrator (elevated).

Enabled = Subject to UAC virtualization.

Disabled = Not subject to UAC virtualization.
