Signs with graphics do not come over or cause an error in V8i applications when using SignCAD MDL

Problem:

Signs with graphics do not come over or cause an error in V8i applications when using the SignCAD MDL.

Solution:

The SignCAD MDL for the V8i applications (MicroStation, Power GEOPAK, etc) sometimes has issues bringing over graphics. Problems with graphics that don't come over correctly into V8i applications can usually be resolved by revising the graphic in OpenRoads SignCAD.

Here are the steps to revise a graphic:

  1. Select the graphic and pick File>Export Selected>Plot HPGL-2 File.  Save the PLT file and press OK to the Export Plot dialog.
  2. Import the Plot HPGL-2 File (PLT) into OpenRoads SignCAD. Select the PLT file and press Open.

3. Right click on the graphic and pick Edit Data. In the Graphic dialog box, press the View and Edit button.

4. In the Graphic View and Edit, pick Manage>Join>Join Enclosed. Press OK to the Join Results dialog.

5. Add fill color to the graphic and save your changes (File>Close and "Yes" to save changes). Press OK to the Graphic dialog box.

6. Replace the graphic in the sign and adjust object spacing as needed.  Save your file (File>Save As).

7. Use the SignCAD MDL to open, place or copy/paste the sign into the V8i application. In the SignCAD Open File dialog box, press the Settings button. Select the desired settings and press OK to both dialog boxes.
