White Space Management is a new technology that allows for the values of annotation fields to remain updateable while the text itself retains its modified location. The way we did this is within our annotation groups we added a new property to the text called "Manage Modifications" and this property can be set to True or False. If it is set to False, it will stay the way it was before 10.10.20+. If it is set to True, it becomes managed text.
There are a few caveats in this initial release. We are only applying this to Alignment and Profile linear annotations. We are also only applying it to text (no cells, lines, terminators, leaders, etc.). We are leaving the old behavior as default, so if you upgrade from older versions it adds the property, but to take advantage of it you will need to set it to True. In our delivered workspaces, we are setting the Managed Modifications to True.
The workflow is pretty straightforward. Set the property to True, annotate elements (should make it Civil Annotation Text instead of Annotation Cell), and you're done! From there, you can observe that the text has a new location property "Relocation Management" with three options for "Location": Default, Relative, and Fixed.
Default - same behavior is it always has been
Relative - text remains relative to original position or anchor point
Fixed - will remain fixed to where it is placed
