-1 Bentley Licensing Service cannot start error

Error or Warning Message

A dialog with a -1 error concerning the Bentley Licensing Service not starting appears when attempting to open products using our Subscription Entitlement Service (SES).

Explanation

The Bentley Licensing Service is a background process that is responsible for securing licenses on behalf of SES. If it is not running or cannot communicate with CONNECTION Client, it cannot activate products.

How to Avoid

Upgrading to the latest version of CONNECTION Client may resolve the issue. If the issue persists, perform the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Sign into CONNECTION Client.
  2. Select Health Check from the drop-down menu in the upper right.

  3. Click the Run Check button.

  4. Note whether any tests fail, specifically the Service Running test.
  5. If issues arise, please contact licensing support by calling us or by filing a new Case in ServiceNow. If filing a service request, please collect diagnostic logs, and attach them when creating the service request.
