Introduction:  The instructions and video below show how-to center a route marker on 2 lines of legend using the Rectangle tool in OpenRoads SignCAD.

The Rectangle tool is a convenient way to place objects into multiple arrangements. Once the rectangle arrangement is placed in a panel, the rectangle can be deleted and the objects in the rectangle will remain arranged in the panel.

Step 1:  Placing a Rectangle.

a. Pick Rectangles>Rectangle.

b. In the Rectangle dialog, expand the Minimum Size menu and type 24 for the Width and Height values.

c. Left-click to place the Rectangle on the workspace.

Step 2: Placing text on the Rectangle.

a. Click on Text>Place Text.

b. In the Place Text dialog, select Font: Highway E Mod 2K and Size: 16. Click in the Place Text dialog and type Blvd. Press the Place Text button and left click to place Blvd in the Rectangle.

c. In the Place Text dialog, use the same text font and size to type Vasquez. Press the Place Text button. Position the text cross-hair above Blvd in the Rectangle and left-click to place Vasquez.

Step 3: Placing a U.S. Route Marker in the Rectangle.

a. In the Route Markers group, click on US Route under the US Route drop-down.

b. In the Place US Route Marker dialog, enter Route Number 85 and select Size 36 from the drop-down menu.

c. Position the cursor to the left of the legend in the Rectangle and left-click to place US-85.

Step 4: Adding the rectangular arrangement to a panel.

a. Pick the Rectangular Panel tool and place a Rectangular Panel on the workspace using the default panel settings. Close the Place Rectangular Panel dialog.

b. Select and drag the Rectangle by an edge and place it in the Rectangular Panel.

c. Select and Delete the Rectangle. Notice that the objects remain arranged in the panel even though the Rectangle is removed.
