The instructions and videos below show how-to edit text in OpenRoads SignCAD.
OpenRoads SignCAD 2025
We’ve completely rebuilt the text editor based on user feedback and internal performance reviews:
1) Text tab
Activate the Text tab by selecting the Drawing > Text > Place Text tool or double clicking on existing text. In the Text tab, adjust the font, size, color, Kerning Method, text alignment, rotation and more.
NOTE: When editing time text in an existing sign, the recommended method is to place the text cursor on the right of the time text and use the left arrow key on the keyboard to position the text cursor on the right side of the number that will be edited. Press <Backspace> to remove the number and then type a new number as shown in the video below.
2) Text Properties
Placed text can be selected and edited from the Text Properties. Pick Properties and then select the text to edit. Click into the Text field to type new text (ex: Street). Adjust other text settings like font, size, color, angle, Kerning and appearance from within the text properties.
3) Multiple Objects Properties
To edit multiple text, pick Properties and then window-select the legend. In the Multiple Objects Properties, change the spacing, alignment, font and/or size for the selected legend.

The new Edit Text dialog is available from the Text group. To Edit existing text, pick the Edit Text tool, double click on the text or use the Text Properties.
The Kerning Method can be used to adjust the spacing between letters and Text alignment to set the Top, Middle or Baseline vertical alignment. The Font drop-down shows the Recently used fonts, the Highway fonts and any other TrueType fonts installed in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder on the computer. The text display will update in the dialog as different fonts are selected. The standard text sizes are available from the size drop-down. There are also Bold and Italic options that can be applied. Font Color can be changed in the Color dialog. The Insert Symbol dialog shows the symbols available including the stacked fractions. The default Text dialog background color (tan) can be changed by selecting a different background color from the Color dialog.
