Introduction:  The instructions and video below show how-to create the Federal D5-2a Rest Area Gore standard sign in OpenRoads SignCAD.

Step 1:  In OpenRoads SignCAD, pick Panels>Standard Sign. The Standard Sign tool is used to create fixed-size rectangular and non-rectangular panels (Octagon, Equilateral Triangle, Round, Pennant, Diamond and Pentagon).

Step 2:  In the Place Standard Sign Panel dialog, change the panel parameters to match those shown below.

Step 3:  A small cross-hair cursor identifies where the panel will be located. Left-click to place the Standard Sign Panel on the workspace and close the dialog.

Step 4: Pick the Text tool to bring up the Place Text dialog. Set the Font: Highway D 2K and Size: 8. Type REST and press the Place Text button. Position the cursor over the panel and left-click to place the text.

Step 5: In the Place Text dialog, type AREA using the same text font and size (8" D 2K) and place it in the panel below REST.

Step 6: Select the Standard Arrow tool. In the Place Standard Arrow dialog, select Arrow Size = 3.75 and left click in the dialog to accept the arrow. To adjust the default standard arrow values, pick Arrow Size: Custom. Change the Angle = 30, Head Width = 10 and Custom Length = 18. Left-click to place the arrow in the panel below AREA. Close the Place Standard Arrow dialog.

Step 7: Select AREA and pick Properties. In the Text Properties, adjust the Bottom object spacing to 5. Left-click in Properties to accept the change. Left-click on the workspace to de-select AREA.

Step 8: Select the arrow and in the Standard Arrow Properties, set the Bottom Spacing = 3.75. Left-click in Properties to accept the change. Left-click on the workspace to de-select the arrow.
