Question:

When I use the create cut fill volume tool I get the following message: "No Design Surfaces Found". How to resolve this issue?

Answer:

The Create Cut and Fill Volumes tool calculates cut and fill volumes between two surfaces, usually an existing a terrain and a surface (terrain or mesh) and creates a 3D mesh solid with volume attributes. One reason you might be getting this message is because the volume option property of one of the terrain model feature definitions is set to "none". To check, simple open the dgn of the terrain model and open the Explorer>OpenRoads Standards>Feature Definition, then select the feature definition and pull up the properties. See below example of the proposed terrain model properties:

Change the volume option to design or subgrade then re-run the create cut fill volume command to successfully create meshes in the 3D model.

**Also ensure the second terrain model has an "existing" volume option.
