Create Baseline and Synchronize Schedule
This section will introduce Create Baseline and Schedule Synchronization. Synchronization simply means to bring in updated information from updated models or schedule to 4D Plan/Model in Synchro. For schedule, there are Synchronize From and Synchronize To. For model files, there is Synchronize From in most cases. In the case of IFC, there is Synchronize To.
Create Baseline
Save a backup file and create a baseline in SYNCHRO:
- Select all Tasks (Ctrl+a)
- Right click > Baseline selected Tasks
You can find your saved baselines in Navigator ribbon > Baseline and Scenarios
Synchronize From updated schedule
- Navigator ribbon -> click External Data to turn on External Data window
- All imported files into your 4D Plan / Model in Synchro are listed in External Data
- Right click on the P6 schedule -> Synchronize From and browse to the new P6 XML file provided
Synchronization Options
- Skip
- Synchronize
- Updated schedule / model will complete replace what is in Synchro
- Integrate
- Updated schedule / model will only replace those came from the old schedule / model, i.e., content created in Synchro will be kept
- Consolidate
If the task/3D object is imported from the old schedule / model into Synchro, but later it is deleted in updated schedule / model, it will be kept and will not be deleted in the 4D model in Synchro.

Note: Synchronization will work when the following is maintained in P6.
- Project ID is maintained in the old and updated schedules
- Project ID becomes part of the Task IDs in Synchro
- WBS Codes are maintained in the old and updated schedules (as much as you could)
- WBS Codes becomes part of the Task IDs in Synchro
- Activity IDs are maintained in the old and updated schedules
- Keep in mind that your tasks are now associated with (3D)Resources in Synchro
- Keep in mind that you can no longer simply change the Activity name – if you change from “columns” to “walls,” it looks right in P6, but it does not look right in Synchro after Synchronization – 3D View will show columns being built as the task shows “walls”
