Problem

How can I view HAMMER transient results for multiple scenarios in the Transient Results Viewer?

Background

Using scenarios is a powerful way to keep track of multiple what-if situations in a single model file. This can be done in the context of a transient simulation by storing for example "no protection" scenarios along with other scenarios that compare different transient protection strategies. See more about using scenarios and alternatives here: Scenario and Alternative Management

Solution - Graphs

If you have multiple scenarios where you have different protection setup, such as different devices or different setups for a single protection device, it is possible to view Time History and Extended Node Data results for more than one scenario on a single graph. This applies to HAMMER V8i SELECTseries 3 (08.11.03.XX) and higher.

To do this, make sure you have computed all scenarios that you want to graph and then open the Transient Results Viewer. Choose the Time History tab (this works for Extended Node Data as well).

You will see an item called Additional Scenarios. Click the ellipsis button next to this and the dialog below will open:

This shows all additional scenarios that have been computed. The active scenario you are already will not be listed. Check the scenario or scenarios you want to view in addition to the active scenario and click OK. Now when you plot a graph, you will see results for both the active scenario and the other scenarios you selected.

Note that this option would only work if the report point you are graphing exists in all scenarios you are graphing.

What about profile results (envelope)

As of version 26.00.00.514, the Profile tab of the Transient Results Viewer currently only shows one scenario at a time. You can set up and compute multiple scenarios and open multiple profiles, but a combined profile with multiple lines would be difficult to visualize in a consistent way that meets the needs of all users and all standard presentation.

To address this, an "Export" button can be found in the Profiles tab of the Transient Results Viewer in HAMMER 2026 (26.XX.XX.XXX) and higher, which enables users to export multiple transient profiles to CSV file. The CSV file can then be manipulated in an external application such as Excel, to produce the desired visualization.
