After loading a background file, the quality of the image is very poor. This typically occurs for image files, like .TIFF and .JPG files etc.
Or
Polyline shapefile backgrounds not displaying correctly in the standalone version.
Crisscrossing lines appear when adding a Shapefile background.
Or
When trying to open some models (not all), the application crashes and closes completely without error.
If a file that doesn't have a background layer attached is opened the program crashes when attaching the background layer.
This may be related to the video card driver on your computer. As a quick test, trying restarting the computer on in Safe Mode and test if you can reproduce the issue. When in Safe Mode the computer will use a generic video card driver. You can also test this on a new/different computer.
If you use both integrated video (such as "Intel HD") as well as a discrete video card, check your video card control panel software (typically found in your system tray in the lower right corner) to ensure that your Bentley product is set to use the discrete video hardware. Also, download and install the latest video card driver from the manufacturer's website.

A note on AMD hardware - this issue has been known to occur for multiple users whose computer has an AMD CPU and onboard AMD graphics hardware (Radeon). To resolve this, use the "Adrenalin" software to detect and update your video drivers. Also ensure your computer is up to date on other drivers and Windows updates.
