ArcGIS Pro Integration

Product(s): WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS
Version(s): 10.03.02.75 (WaterGEMS) or 10.03.03.44 (SewerGEMS) and higher
Platform: ArcGIS

Background

Starting with version 10.03.02.75 of WaterGEMS (released on November 12th, 2020), and version 10.03.03.44 of SewerGEMS (release on February 22nd, 2021), integration with ArcGIS Pro is supported and you can read more about it here:

Overview of WaterGEMS for ArcGIS Pro

ArcMap integration will still be supported along with ArcGIS Pro, as some users will want to adopt ArcGIS Pro right away, while others may take time to transition away from ArcMap. The new ArcGIS Pro integration update is available to SELECT subscribers at no additional cost. Subscribe to our Blog to receive alerts on new version releases.

Note also that WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS and HAMMER (and the other OpenFlows products) include a powerful Standalone platform which most modelers prefer and does not require any other software such as ArcGIS (and thus can save the cost of having to install and use ArcGIS on every modeler's computer). The ModelBuilder tool can be used to import (and synchronize) model data from an ArcGIS Pro data source. For example, see: Using an ArcGIS Utility Network to build a model.

Additionally, if you need to present hydraulic model information in ArcGIS Pro before the ArcGIS Pro direct integration is available, the ModelBuilder tool can "sync out" data back to the data source, and the OpenFlows products can also export to standard formats such as Esri Shapefile.

Several usability improvements have been added to WaterGEMS when using the ArcGIS Pro integration.

ArcGIS Pro Usability Improvements

Starting with WaterGEMS 2024 and SewerGEMS 2024 (version 24.00.00.XX and higher), usability improvements have been included. Here is a list of some of these:

Layer and style symbol improvements

Symbols automatically applied to Layers

When you add elements to the drawing, the new symbol style will automatically be applied.

Custom symbols for element types

Program-specific symbols are now applied automatically to the Contents and Layers.

Improved right-click menu for Layer options

The menu options have been improved when you right-click on a layer in the Contents. WaterGEMS-specific options are denoted with a [W]. This will aid in quickly accessing element FlexTables and applying Layer Symbology.

Streamlined layer symbology (color coding) workflow

The workflow to apply color coding using Layer Symbology has been streamlined for easier use. Layer Symbology can be applied by right-clicking on a Layer in the Contents and choosing "[W] Initialize Symbology."

This will open the Initialize Layer Symbology manager, where you can initialize the color coding for the element.

To reset the layer symbology, right-click the element layer and choose "[W] Reset Symbology."

Layers automatically assigned to groups

Layers a given type are now automatically assigned to groups in the Contents. With this setup, it is easier to see all program-related layers in the Contents.

When you expand the group, it will show all elements in the group. For instance, expanding the Valve Element Types will show the different pressure elements available in the program.

Version Support

Certain versions of WaterGEMS and SewerGEMS will support integration with certain versions of ArcGIS Pro. See:

In addition to the overview article, two videos are available below, for a quick introduction, and a more in-depth training video, respectively.

Note that although the videos are for WaterGEMS, the same workflow and concepts apply to SewerGEMS (10.03.03.44+)
