Problem

When opening a model, the following error message is generated: "Expecting: ElementSymbologyGroupManager"

Solution

Please try the following following steps to see if they help with the issue.:

1. Find the version the model was last saved in

  1. Open the model file in any text file editor
  2. Look at the first few lines for a string that says "ProductVersionLastModified = XX.XX.XX.XX"
  3. Upgrade your software to the version listed or higher.

2. Compact Database

a. Close the model files but leave the program open.

b. Go to Tools > Database Utilities > Compact Database and select the database file.

c. Choose the selection to purge the database to save space.

d. Try opening the model.

3. Move the main model files to a new folder

This step can be useful if the issue is related to one of the supporting files. In cases like this, moving the main model files (.wtg and .wtg.sqlite files for a water model or .stsw and .stsw.sqlite files for a storm-sewer model) to a new location can help.

a. Copy the water model files (.wtg, and .sqlite) or storm-sewer model files (.stsw, and .sqlite).

b. Paste them into a new folder on a local drive.

4. Import the database file into a new drawing

a. Close the model files but leave the program open.

b. Go to File > Import > (product name) Database. For example, when importing a SewerGEMS database file, this will be File > Import > SewerGEMS Database.

c. Select the database file associated with the model.

5. Restore a backup of the model

If the issue still occurs, please contact Global Technical Support.
