Overview
All zones related information can be found and controlled under the Zones tab, located in the side panel. By default they will be displayed on.
Zones should correspond to isolated areas of the system, surrounded by closed valves and where all inflows and outflows (if exist) must be measured. Zones can include for example DMA (District Metered Areas), pressure zones or operational zones. The configuration of the inflow and outflow sensors as well as tanks levels that may exist inside the zone are configured in the Zones configuration page (at the administration level) by the user.
To turn on/off the zones in the map, please click in the visibility icon located on the top, under zones tab. If turned on, Zones will be displayed in the map with colour coded polygons (colour coded is based on the flow data quality of each of the sensors contributing to the final zone balance) and displayed as a list in the side panel.
Note: Zones defined with priority 0 in the zone configuration page (inside Admin) will never be displayed in the map page.
Status
Zones listed on the right side menu are color coded according to the following:
Category | Symbol | Description |
No Data | At least one sensor contributing to the final zone balance has no readings at all
Partial data | If at least one of the sensor that contribute to the zone balance is with partial data
OK | If all sensors that contribute to the zone balance are classified as ok |
More information about the sensor status under the Sensor Status section, above.
Active Events
If there are active events associated to zones (does not include closed events), a red warning icon will be displayed inside the zone. Clicking in the zone with the active event icon directly on the map will open the zone information panel with more detail about the active events. From the side panel, the 5 most recent events associated with the sensor or zone will be displayed. For the full list, click below in Details. The user can directly jump to the event detail by clicking in the alert ID (on the short list or in the full list). From the events details page the user can manage the event, such as change status, category and make comments.
Sort by
Clicking in icon located on the right side menu to sort and filter zones. It is used to control the way the zone list is displayed in the side panel and map:
Sort by:
Sort By | Description |
Alphabetic | Sorts the list of zones ascending in alphabetical order |
Hierarchy | Sort zones by level of hierarchy. More information below. |
Status | Groups the list by status and sorts within groups in alphabetical order |
Filters:
Status |
No data - At least one sensor contributing to the final zone balance has no readings. More information above under sensor status section. Partial data - If at least one of the sensor that contribute to the zone balance is with partial data. More information above under sensor status section. Ok - If all sensors that contribute to the zone balance are classified as ok. More information above under sensor status section. |
Hierarchy | Sort zones by level of hierarchy. More information below. |
Tag | See the zones displayed by user defined groups. User defined groups or Tags are defined in the Zone Configuration, under Administration. |
Hierarchy: Most utilities manage their systems based on bigger zones (usually called operational zones or distribution systems), being each operational zone or system composed by several smaller zones (usually called DMA). In WaterSight it is possible to consider these two levels of zones hierarchy, but it is also possible to consider three or more levels of hierarchy (for example a town, that is composed by several distribution systems, being each system composed by several DMA). In the example below, it is being considered a bigger zone (Oakville Zone) that is divided in two smaller zones (Oakville Low Zone and Oakville High Zone). In this case, in the zones configuration table inside the administration page, both Oakville Low Zone and Oakville High Zone should have as parent the Oakville Zone .
Selecting a Zone
When clicking a zone on the map or selecting one from the list located on the side menu, a zone chart with sensor reading for the previous 24 hours is shown together with more information on the side menu:
Zone values for the previous 24 hours are shown (black line with color coded circles) together with the expected patterns - grey bands (in case patterns are configured in Admin >> Zones). The main goal is to provide an at-a-glance indication if "patterned" variables lie within the expected range of values. Particularly useful to quickly spot any anomalies (that can represent bursts, leaks, tank overflows, pressure problems, maintenance works, etc) in real time.
The zone values displayed in the chart are the sum of all inflows minus all outflows plus the variation of storage inside the zone.
User can click in the expand button located on the top right of the graph for more detail. The chart will extend to full page with more options, such as: navigating in the time series history, create event button shortcut, changing pattern or time series-interval. More information in the zone details help-page.
Sensor tag: The name associated to the zone (configured in the GIS administration page).
Pattern: Pattern group assigned to the zone. Pattern groups can be created the the Administration > Settings > Pattern and assigned to zones in the Admin > Zones configuration page. If Pattern None is selected, then no patterns will be computed and displayed in the zone graph. Patterns are displayed in the as grey bands.
Status: Ok, Partial data or No data. See table above for more detail.
Zone information is the final sum of all inflows minus all outflows plus the variation of storage inside the zone.
Field | Description |
Minimum (p05) | Percentile 5 of the last 3 months period, for the integration type time-series defined. |
Median (p50) | Percentile 50 of the last 3 months period, for the integration type time-series defined. |
Maximum (p95) | Percentile 95 of the last 3 months period, for the integration type time-series defined. |
Minimum/Median |
Ratio of "Minimum (p05)"and "Median (p50)" of the last 3 months period, for the integration type time-series defined. High ratio means that the minimum flow is closer to the average flow, and therefore there is a higher probability of the zone having high levels of real losses. |
List of inflow sensors to the zone. Clicking directly in one of the sensors, will open the sensor related information and graph.
List of outflow sensors of the zone (in case they exist). Clicking directly in one of the sensors, will open the sensor related information and graph.
List of tank level sensors inside the zone (in case they exist). Clicking directly in one of the sensors, will open the sensor related information and graph.
The 5 most recent events associated with the zone will be displayed. For the full list, click below in Details.
The user can directly jump to the event detail by clicking in the alert ID (on the short list or in the full list). From the events details page the user can manage the event, such as change status, category and make comments.
By clicking in the compare button the user will be redirected to the comparison page where he will be able to simultaneously compare in the same graph any user defined variable.
By clicking in the details button the user will be redirected to the zone details page with more options, such as: navigating in the time series history, create event button shortcut, changing pattern or time series-interval. More information in the zone details help-page.
