When an element is made inactive, it still shows up in gray. Can I make inactive elements disappear instead?
Yes. This is controlled under Tools > Options > Global (or File > Options > Global). In more recent versions (24.00.00.26 and higher), this can also be controlled from the pulldown menu under Tools > Active Topology:
If you'd like inactive elements to disappear from view, uncheck "Display Inactive Topology". Unchecking this option is recommended and will result in a more intuitive model display in most cases. Keeping this option checked will remind you of the elements that are no longer active though.
In the CONNECT Edition version (10.00.00.XX) go to the Tools tab and click on the square in the lower right hand corner (See screen shot below) or go to File > Options. Then uncheck "Display Inactive Topology" in the Global tab.
Modelers will typically choose to hide the inactive elements so that they disappear from scenarios where they aren't included. For example, in your current year scenario, pipes laid in the future don't show up at all and you still have the ability to color code. Then when you switch to your future conditions scenario, those pipes appear and can be color coded. Those things couldn't happen if we treated Is active? as a typical property, which is why the display of active topology is controlled in the Options dialog.
