MicroStation I/RAS B Engineer Functionality's General Workflow

The Engineer Tools, now available in MicroStation I/RAS B, offer a real solution to the challenge of converting existing engineering, manufacturing, and facilities drawings. It streamlines and accelerates the conversion/vectorization process.

Below are the steps involved for a general workflow to take a hard copy of a drawing and produce a file that represents the original data in vector format.

  1. Select the drawing for your input data.
  2. Scan the drawing at 200-400 dpi.
  3. Clean up and prepare the raster file for conversion using I/RAS B.
    • Speckle Remove and SAVE
    • Hole Fill and SAVE
    • Smooth and SAVE
    • Apply any other raster modifications
  4. Convert the raster file using I/RAS Engineer
    • Configure viewing environment using View > Preferences > Quick Zoom
    • Set Raster Separation and Raster Snap parameters
    • Create cell/terminator libraries and symbology sets
    • Begin the vectorization process and SAVE periodically
  5. Plot the drawing (either via MicroStation Plotting or InterPlot) or enter the converted data into the next software application.
