Introduction

The Glazing Data menu in Design Database contains a comprehensive array of glazing data that is used by the various Hevacomp Calculations.

Glazing Data

While we would strongly suggest filling in all the data for each glazing type, you should recognise that the menu is split into three areas as highlighted below. The red sections data is used solely by Design Database for steady state calculations, and the blue sections are used by Simulator for dynamic simulations, the green section is used by Simulator AND the PartL program but is NOT considered in the other Design Database calculations.

Data for Design Database Calculations

• The U value, light transmission, shading coefficient and SHGC figures should be obtained from the glazing manufacturer. Bentley Systems Ltd cannot provide these figures.
• If the glazing manufacturer is unable to provide Solar Gain Factors, advice on computing these can be found in this wiki article.
• If you wish to modify glazing data to incorporate a blind for all Design Database calculations EXCEPT PartL then you need to modify this data.

Data for Simulation and PartL Calculations

PartL considers different data to the Steady State calculations. One of the options you can specify for glazing in PartL is a blind type. the PartL program will take the blind specification directly from this field within the Glazing Data.  This data will also be used in Simulation calculations.

 
Note: Selecting this blind type will have no effect on the other Design Database calculations. To effect the other Design Database calculations you must adjust the Glazing Properties section accordingly.

Data for Simulations

U and G values are often the only figures provided for glazing requirements during the early stages of a building’s design. However, please note that these U and G values cannot simply be entered manually into the glazing data menu; rather they are subsequently calculated upon entering the complete glazing construction. The Simulations use this construction data so all of the following must be defined:

• Glazing Type, Blind Type and Material Type  – these determine the data fields available in the ‘Layer Data’ section.
• Layer Data  – specifying glass type, and the properties of the space between panes
• Clicking on Calculate will update the U and G values, should any changes have been made to the glazing construction. Please note this should be done whenever any changes are made.
• The Change Data button should be clicked when the final glazing construction meets your requirements.

Should you wish to view, edit or add a new glass type, then you will need to click on Glass Database. Likewise, the Blind types can be viewed or edited by clicking on Blinds Database. Using the existing data would be recommended, unless you have very specific data available from the glazing manufacturer.
