Background
Descartes for MicroStation CONNECT Edition is now available.
In the CONNECT Edition, the Descartes "layered" product is not available as a separate installer. However, this now comes as a "Companion" feature which is bundled in the MicroStation installation program as well as other Bentley products. See the full list of compatible products here.
Note: Bentley Descartes is available as a standalone application which will require a separate license
Installation Steps
When installing a Bentley product that bundles the "Bentley Descartes for MicroStation" product, you are now presented with the option to install the Descartes Companion Feature (see screen capture below). When toggled ON, this option will install the Descartes Companion feature (a.k.a. Descartes "layered").
Loading Descartes
1) Once the installation is complete, select the Reality Modeling workflow from the product's ribbon.
2) When the Reality Modeling workflow is first selected, you are presented with the option to load Descartes:
3) Select "Load":
- A warning message appears informing the user that an additional license is required to load the Descartes companion features
- If user clicks "Proceed", usage will be logged against the "Bentley Descartes for MicroStation" product (ProductID 1042) in conjunction with the platform product's license. And, the Descartes tools will be loaded in the product's user interface.
- If the user clicks "Cancel", no usage is recorded against the "Bentley Descartes for MicroStation" product (ProductID 1042). The Descartes tools will not be loaded in the product's user interface.
Note:
If you have elected not to install the Descartes companion in the first instance, but choose to do so at a later date, this can be done but this time the Bentley platform product will not need to be reinstalled. Go to the Windows Apps and Features an select MicroStation and then "Modify":
The option to add the Companion product will again be selectable upon the installation start-up.
