05. Piping Code Calculations - AutoPIPE

Be sure to review the following AutoPIPE help information:

Help > Contents> Contents Tab> Reference Information> Code Compliance Calculations>

This area describes variables, equations, and methodology used by AutoPIPE to produce output reports per the code associated with the piping system database. AutoPIPE is capable of generating actual and allowable stresses for each of the applicable stress categories (depending on the current, analyzed load cases) for all codes listed below. Please Note: The Standard edition only has access to 4 ASME codes and European code EN13480 as shown in the Getting Started topic "AutoPIPE Standard vs Advanced vs Nuclear".

Select the Piping code hyperlink below for general questions about the code's calculations.

Note:

1. As indicated above, most of AutoPIPE's calculations are provide in the help documentation. Other more proprietary calculations are reserved for those that are apart of AutoPIPE's QA program (see here and contact QA Contract or Sales person for more information on the program). Companies apart of the QA program are able to audit the program and all calculations. Contact QA&R Program Manager or Software Quality Manager to schedule a visit. For all other request, they are handled on a case by case bases for the information being requested.

2. Additional hyperlinks are added below as new information is presented.

3. Allowable values are calculated based on code requirements. See the online help location mentioned above for details.

Example: Allowable calculation for ASME B31.1 (2012), "Stresses Due to Sustained Loads" category.

Please see the following AutoPIPE help section:
Help > Contents> Contents Tab> Reference Information> Code Compliance Calculations> ASME B31.1 (2012)> Stresses Due to Sustained Loads>  Read the information, the allowable calculation is mentioned in the write-up.

"AutoPIPE reports sL, and the allowable stress (SH)."

The allowable calculation for this category is (SH).

In addition, other settings under Tools> Model Options> Results may affect the allowable calculations (i.e. Sustain Margin (Y/N/E), etc..)

4. If an AutoPIPE help calculation has a variable that was not defined in the immediate area, see Definition of Terms hyperlink at the bottom of the current help page. There are 8 categories of variables; select the correct category to find a specific variable with clear definition.
