Solution:
Cause
You may receive this error message if any one of the following conditions is true:
- The folder that you are trying to install the Windows Installer package to is encrypted.
- The drive that contains the folder that you are trying to install the Windows Installer package to is accessed as a substitute drive.
-
The SYSTEM account does not have Full Control permissions on the folder that you are trying to install the Windows Installer package to. You notice the error message because the Windows Installer service uses the SYSTEM account to install software.
-
Previous versions of the application are currently installed.
- As of Jan 2024, one may encounter this issue because of updated security measures (example, DHTML) . Take a moment to look at the image to identify all of the Product Pre-requisites whose status is not set to "Already Installed" or "Installed". Try to download these application separately from their original manufacture web sites and install them before installing Bentley software.
Unfortunately, Bentley is no longer able to distribute these pre-requisite applications due to security concerns. Previously, they were available as part of the "Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications" on our software download site. However, going forward, the only way to obtain these applications would be through the original manufacturers' website. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and sincerely apologize for any difficulties you may encounter while installing other manufacturers' applications as prerequisites for Bentley applications. Please contact the original software manufacture for software availability and technical support for installation issues. If one of the prerequisites is an Bentley V8i or earlier application, please remember our support policy, certain programs are no longer supported or available. This would be a hard stop with this installation. We apologize once more.
Resolution
To resolve this problem, do any one of the following, depending on the cause of the problem:
- Install the package to a folder that is not encrypted.
Use this method if you receive the error message because you try to install the Windows Installer package to a folder that is encrypted.
- Install the package to a drive that is not accessed as a substitute drive.
Use this method if you receive the error message because the drive that contains the folder that you try to install the Windows Installer package to is accessed as a substitute drive.
- Grant Full Control permissions to the SYSTEM account. (for Windows 2000 and Windows XP only)
Use this method if you receive the error message because the SYSTEM account does not have Full Control permissions on the folder that you try to install the Windows Installer package to.
1. Open the Programs and Features control panel.
2. Select Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 in the list of installed programs.
3. Click the Uninstall/Change button just above the list (see attached screenshot).
4. In the window that appears, the Repair option should be chosen already. Click the Next button to proceed.
5. Once the repair is complete, attempt to install AutoPIPE and any dependencies by running Setup.exe in the ap09050021en folder again.
- Notes: Some IT departments have reported struggles with getting this package repaired/working. Trying to repair the Microsoft. NET Framework v3.5 did not work initially and neither did attempting to re-install it (either installing it direct before trying to install AutoPIPE, or letting AutoPIPE do the Microsoft. NET Framework v3.5 installation). Both approaches still got the same errors mentioned above. We even searched for updates/M-soft fixes and tried to run those on it to no avail.
- If this occurs investigate if Microsoft. NET Framework v4 is installed. If so, deleted it off the system (and checked for any other versions too), and then installed Microsoft. NET Framework v3.5 directly from file 'dotnetfx35.exe' from M-soft's website. This installed with no errors and subsequently AutoPIPE, AutoPIPE acceptance test, the structural dashboard and the license tool should now install with out error.
- Completely remove all previous version of the Application, reboot the system, and then Download and Install AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.01.xx or higher. This newer version of the program has a new installer that is more streamlined to avoid issues such as this.
