How to reduce screen clutter by pinning docked dialogs

Background

Users who like to dock dialogs such as Explorer, Level Display etc find that  the size of the View is reduced in which they are designing. Whilst they could undock and dismiss these dialogs are recall them via the ribbon when required, the other option is to 'Pin' these docked dialogs.

Once a docked dialog is pinned they are reduced in size to roll-out tabs. During the design process the user can move their cursor over these roll-out tabs to expose the dialog and the appropriate action can be taken, once complete moving the cursor off the pinned dialog collapses the dialog.

Pinned dialogs                             Roll-out tab(s) temporarily expose pinned dialogs

Docked dialogs can be pinned where they are docked, for example to the left (as image above) or right as well as top or bottom (as per image above).

Steps to Accomplish

  1. Open the dockable dialog from the ribbon
  2. Dock the dockable dialog to the required location ( See article below on this process an location limitations )

  3. Once docked select the 'Pin' icon that is now exposed by the dialog name. ( Repeat for additional dockable dialogs as required )

If two or more dockable dialogs have been located on top of each other and the 'Pin' icon is selected all these dialogs will be pinned.

To unpin the docked dialog(s),

Move your cursor over the roll-out tab to expose the dialog and select the 'Pin' icon. Once done the dialog will be returned to its docked position and can be undocked if required.
