Solution

Easily set the elevation of an element using the Set Element Elevation tool.

When working in 3D design files, it is often necessary to change the elevation, or height, of an element. This is the element’s distance from zero along the Z-axis of the model. This can be easily done using the Set Element Elevation tool.

When working in a 3D design, it can be all too easy to place an element(s) at an incorrect elevation. The elevation of an element is the element’s distance from zero along the Z-axis of the model. This could be due to snapping to another element during placement, having an incorrect Z-depth set, etc.

There are a variety of ways to correct this. One possibility that is done all too often is to redraw the element. Another solution frequently used is to relocate the element using a combination of AccuDraw and the Move tool. And others use precision input using Key-ins.

A simple and easy way to change the elevation of an element is to use the Set Element Elevation tool. To set the elevation of an element, do the following:

  1. Pick the Set Element Elevation tool.
  2. Set the desired Elevation.
  3. If desired, enable and set an Increment value.
  4. Identify an element.

The element is then moved to that elevation.

Note: This tool does not change the active elevation (Z-depth) in the model. It can be used on basic geometry such as lines, line strings, arcs, and polygons, but cannot change the elevation of element types such as circles, ellipses, or solids. It supports both positive and negative values, used to either raise or lower elements. Multiple elements can be placed in a selection set and used with this command.
