Overview
This article will provide users, specifically Admins who are responsible for managing user access, with an overview of the roles at the Organization and Project levels. For instructions regarding changing the role of users, please see the User Management article.
There are a number of pre-defined organization roles in the Bentley IMS, called Enterprise Roles. The following Enterprise roles have the permission to create new projects and manage user organization and project roles:
If a user doesn't have an organization role assigned, they can still be added to projects and be assigned any project-level role.
If you are unsure of the function of an IMS role, please reach out to support, who can help you determine the capabilities of that role.
Project roles control the user's ability to access modules, manage hardware connections, and impact their ability to create, access, and share profiles. These roles are assigned to each user for each asset individually.
There are a number of asset roles available in the configuration window that apply to other Bentley products, and organization Admins may have custom roles created for their organization. As a result, the information below will focus solely on default roles that apply to iTwin IoT. The table below outlines the tasks that each role can perform.
Note: Modules with customizable profiles include Dashboards, Data (graphs, polar, X/Y plots, and tables), Alerts, and Reports.
