How do headers work within Strips in Master Templates?

Question

When working with the a template the headers and legend can appear complex. The guide below shows how the heads spacing works and the legend spacing.

Page Set up

For most Strips a two-header set up would work best. The two Row Heights at the top of the page define the space you will have in your header. They are cumulative, so level 2 cants be smaller than 2 mm greater than level 1.

The image below shows how the levels of the heading work together. In this example we will have a 10 min two heading with a 20 mm lower heading.

Legends and Scales

For complex Strips with a lot of graphs its good to switch off all the scales for all the graphs which share a scale so that when changes are made to one they don’t cause any problems.

Positioning the scale bars.

The simplest way to describe positioning of the scales is in relation to the header space. We know the scale and legend will be in the level 2 part of the header space so there is 20 mm of space. We can change the settings with in the main graph which has the scale.

First of all, we need to make sure the text style is the correct size for the numbers on the scale. This is in the style on the scale tab as show above.

When we want to move the scale, we need to look under the legend options.

The padding in this section relates to the padding around the legend. This will push the scale away form the legend. This is the way to make sure the scale is in the correct place.

All movement is relative to the legend even if the legend isn’t there.
