RAM Manager Module buttons grayed out after closing a module

Product: RAM Structural System

Version: Any, discovered in 24.00.01

Area: General, Installation, Licensing

Problem Description

After closing one module, the buttons to launch other modules remain grayed out as if the original module is still running. In this state of limbo the file can't be closed without first killing the "RAMContainer for Windows" process. When trying to exit the application, the message "Please close any active RAM Structural System modules before closing RAM Manager." is displayed even though there are no modules open.

Explanation

When a module is launched a separate process called RAMContainer.exe is started. The process is normally terminated when the module is closed and this frees the Manager to open another. There are a few possible causes for the RAMContainer process not to stop. A lack of Windows privileges, for example, can prevent the program from starting and stopping applications. Some virus scanners might also interfere.

This article is for the specific case where a graphics driver setting can cause the problem.

Solution

First update to the latest graphics adapter driver. To do this launch Device Manager; go to Display Adapters; you will see your graphics hardware. Double-click each one and click on Drivers tab. Select Update Drivers. Machine must be restarted after updating the graphics drivers.

If the issue is not resolved, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to Graphics Settings; you can use the search window in the task bar.
  2. Within the graphics settings, browse for "RAMContainer.exe"; the default location is C:\Program Files\Bentley\Engineering\RAM Structural System\Prog\
  3. In the settings, Enable "Power Saving Mode" as shown below.
