Table of Contents

Query-based Active Topology

With query-based active topology, you can now set active topology for a system based on a query. To facilitate this, a new Year Retired property has been included for pipes and different nodes, like tanks and pumps.

To use this feature, go to the Home or Tools tab and select Active Topology. There is an item called Edit Active Topology Mode, where you can choose to select active topology from the drawing or based on a query. You can also set this Active Topology Mode in the Active Topology alternative.

If you select to choose active topology based on a query, you can then edit your queries through the item in the Ribbon interface or in the alternative. Clicking the Edit Queries will open the Query manager. Click the New button to add an element type. You can select Pipe or Customer Meters. Once the element is selected, click the Query Builder button to create the query.

Suppose you want to create a query based on year a conduit was installed. After choosing Pipe as the element type for the query, click Query Builder. You will see a list of properties to choose from. Select "Year Installed," then the operator, then enter a value. You click the Unique Valves to see a list of values from the properties field.

Click Okay, and the query will be included in the Queries manager. To apply this to the model, click the Apply button. The number of elements will be listed.

To apply this query to Active Topology, go to the Home or Tools tab and select Active Topology > Apply Queries. You can also do this operation through the Active Topology alternative.

Multiple queries can be applied using the AND or OR operators.

In addition, to assume that elements connected to the element you selected are also included (like nodes connected to pipes), make sure the "Automatically include connected elements" checkbox is selected.

More information on active topology selection can be found here: Active Topology Management.

Selection Set Groups

You can now group selection sets using the Folder option. This will help with the organization and usage of selection sets. In the Selection Sets manager, click the New button and choose Folders.

When you create a selection set from the Selection Sets manager, either by a query or by selection, the selection set will be saved into a folder if you highlight the folder. If you want the selection set to be outside of folder, you can move it to the main "Selection Set" item in the treeview

If you create a selection set by highlighting elements in the drawing, right-clicking, and choosing Create Selection Set, you will have the option to save to a folder or the main Selection Set option.

You can also move selections into and out of folders by dragging and dropping a selection set in the Selection Set manager.

More information on creating selection sets can be found here: How to create a selection set.

Tool to measure length and area in Standalone

A measure tool for length and area is now available for Standalone. To access this feature, go to Home > Drawing > Measure or Layout > Measuring. From the Home tab, you can click the Measure button to choose either length or area. From the Layout tab, you will see each option available.

See the following link for details on using this tool: Using the Measure tool for length and area in the Standalone products.

Search feature in TreeViews (Scenarios, etc.) and ListView controls (Selection Sets, Contours, etc.)

A search feature is now included in TreeView managers and ListView managers. This will help when there are a large number of items in a model, such as a large number of scenarios or profiles.

A Search bar is included at the top of the manager. Once you enter a value, the list of items in the manager will be filtered to only show items with the value.

ArcGIS Pro Usability Improvements

Several usability improvements have been added to SewerGEMS when using the ArcGIS Pro integration.

Layer and style symbol improvements

Symbols automatically applied to Layers

When you add elements to the drawing, the new symbol style will automatically be applied.

Custom symbols for element types

SewerGEMS-specific symbols are now applied automatically to the Contents and Layers.

Improved right-click menu for Layer options

The menu options have been improved when you right-click on a layer in the Contents. SewerGEMS-specific options are denoted with a [S]. This will aid in quickly accessing element FlexTables and applying Layer Symbology.

Streamlined layer symbology (color coding) workflow

The workflow to apply color coding using Layer Symbology has been streamlined for easier use. Layer Symbology can be applied by right-clicking on a Layer in the Contents and choosing "[S] Initialize Symbology."

This will open the Initialize Layer Symbology manager, where you can initialize the color coding for the element.

To reset the layer symbology, right-click the element layer and choose "[S] Reset Symbology."

Layers automatically assigned to groups

Layers a given type are now automatically assigned to groups in the Contents. With this setup, it is easier to see all SewerGEMS-related layers in the Contents.

When you expand the group, it will show all elements in the group. For instance, expanding the Pressure Node Element Types will show the different pressure elements available in SewerGEMS.

ModelBuilder support for ArcGIS Online features

ArcGIS Online features are now supported in ModelBuilder when working in SewerGEMS for ArcGIS Pro. To access this, open ModelBuilder and create a new ModelBuilder Connection. Set the Source Type to "ArcGIS Geodatabase Features" and browse to the Portal > ArcGIS Online.

From here, you will be able to select a layer to import using ModelBuillder.

Constraint-based Design Improvements

Design Inverts Only calculation type

A new Calculation Type has been added to the calculation options for the GVF-Rational (StormCAD) and GVF-Convex (SewerCAD) solvers. If the Calculation Type is set to "Design Inverts Only," the constraint-based design will only adjust invert elevations for elements in the model without changing the size of the conduits. This will apply to conduit and node invert elevations.

When using this feature, only conduit minimum cover and minimum slope constraints are used in design run.

Design only for selected elements

An option to design only selected elements has been included, by which you will be able to design only part of a larger system.

To user this, highlight the elements you want to design in the drawing. This can be done manually or by choosing a selection set of elements. With the elements highlighted, when you click the Compute button, the prompt that opens will include the usual message about creating a new Physical alternative or using an existing one, but also an option design the selected elements or the entire network.

This works for both the Design and Design Inverts Only calculation type.

Catalog conduit design options

Options for how constraint-based design handles catalog conduit classes has been included in the Default Design Constraints manager.

If you set this to "Consider all classes of the same shape and material," the conduit size used in the design is selected from all catalog conduits with the same cross-section shape and material.

By setting this to "Only consider sizes in the specified class," only catalog conduits from the selected catalog class are used. User-defined conduit size will not be designed when using this selection.

Add support for SWMM Type 5 pumps

SWMM Type 5 pump definitions are now available when using the Explicit solver in SewerGEMS and CivilStorm. This pump definition is not available for the Implicit or GVF-Convex solvers.

SWMM Control Curves

Control curves support has been added to the SWMM Control Sets in SewerGEMS and CivilStorm. This applies to the Explicit solver.

The typical use for this will be controlling the size of an outlet link based on the depth of water at a node. This would apply to weir and orifice settings for nodes and ponds.

Another use for this will be for Pumps with a multiplier applied to the flow computed from the pump curve (or relative pump speed for a Type 5 pump).

An example of the SWMM Control would be as follows:

IF JUNCTION J1 DEPTH >= 0.0

THEN WEIR W2 SETTING = CURVE CurveData-1

The CURVE is added by going to Components > SWMM Extensions > Control Curves

For more information on SWMM Control Sets, see the following link: Using SWMM Control Sets in SewerGEMS and CivilStorm.

Inlet import/export to EPA-SWMM format

Inlets are now supported when exporting to the EPA-SWMM format.

Support for manholes set as storage in SWMM import/export

If the manhole property "Treat as Storage?" is set the True and the solve is set to Explicit, the manhole will be exported as a Storage Node when exporting to EPA-SWMM.

User Formula Time of Concentration support

You can now use a formula User Data Extension for the Time of Concentration. To use this, create a formula UDX from the catchment elements. After creating this, open the catchment properties and set Tc Input Type to "User Formula Tc". You can then select the UDX from Formula Tc property field.

Support for channel link draining to catch basin for the GVF-Rational solver

In the GVF-Rational (StormCAD) solver, Depth (Gutter) and Spread/Top Width results will be calculated at a catch basin when there is a single incoming channel link.

An option has been added to the catch basin properties to accommodate this. Open the properties grid and set the Gutter Type field to "Use Upstream Channel."

Inlet Methodology calculation option for Explicit solver

A new Inlet Methodology calculation option has been included in the Explicit solver. You can select between the Bentley-derived inlet calculation method or the SWMM inlet calculation method.

Wet well support in Critical Storm Analysis

Wet wells are included in the list of nodes during the Critical Storm Analysis.

Link to Ideas Portal

A link to the Ideas Portal has been added to the user interface. If you select this, you will be directed to the Ideas Portal, where you can make feature requests for the product. This is located next to the Ribbon Search in the upper-right corner of the user interface.

Graph Tips feature

When you hover over a graph series, you will now be able to see what properties are included in the graph.
