This article includes a list of startup configuration variables and their usage for Bentley's GEOPAK 2004 Edition products. These variables apply to the activation of GEOPAK products and the use of SelectServer-based licensing. They do not have any bearing on or practical application for SELECT node license files.

These variables can be placed in a .CFG file within the APPL directory of MicroStation, or within any other user or project configuration file, depending on the user's individual configuration. If the variable is not present, operation will continue as it always has with the activation of all installed and licensed products.

The genesis of these variables was to allow individuals to install all the GEOPAK products in a single directory, and have control over which licenses are utilized. An example of their usefulness: If these variables do not exist, a GEOPAK Suite user will consume a Suite license and a Civil Extension license (assuming they are both installed to the same directory). This would limit a second user from accessing the capabilities within the Civil Extension.

With the addition of these variables there are many benefits to the user:

You can have a standard install of the entire set of products regardless of the usage for every PC, which facilitates cloning.
Any user will have access to as many or as few of the products as they need without the need for custom installs and batch files or multiples workspaces.
Tools that are not used can be turned off to streamline the applications pull down menu.
Different departments can have default startups enabling them to utilize only those licenses they need. For example, Survey and Civil Extensions can be started by a survey department even though they have Suite and Civil Extensions loaded. This does not mean that they can break up a Suite license. It means they can control the license that will be utilized given that they have multiple license types on their server.

The variables are as follows:

GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG = 1

GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_SUITE = 1

GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_SITE = 1

GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_SURVEY = 1

GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_BRIDGE = 1

GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_REBAR = 1

GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG_CIVILEXT = 1

When you choose GPK_STARTUP_CONFIG = 1, an item will be added below "Activate GEOPAK" called "Startup Configuration." When selected, it will give you a dialog with all installed products displayed in black and those products that are not installed ghosted out. You can then check the desired products you want to use. Note: "Suite" in the dialog refers to the "ROAD" pull down. The program will select the minimum license use depending on what has been checked off.< /FONT >

Example:

In Figure 1, a Suite license will be used and you will see all the Suite tools in the Applications pull down.

In Figure 2, a Suite license will be used and you will see all only the Survey and Bridge tools in the Applications pull down.

In Figure 3, a Site license will be used and you will see all the Site tools in the Applications pull down.

To allow the functionality, this variable should exist and be set to "1." No other setting is applicable. The settings will be remembered for subsequent MicroStation activations.

The remaining variables are used for automatic activation of specific product and can be set to "1" for ON and "0" for OFF.
