Refreshing the policy acts as synchronizing the specific user's entitlements stored on his/her local machine with the actual entitlements the user has, and which are stored/configured on the licencing server.
Refreshing the policy is one of the foremost and basic troubleshooting steps that can be performed in any situation concerning Bentley applications utilising the current application model, i.e. Subscription Entitlement Service (SES).
Any user can refresh the policy at any time to retrieve their up-to-date entitlements from the licensing server and save them on their local machine.
Refreshing the policy may be helpful or even required in the following, not exhaustive list of scenarios/situations:
In the Bentley Licensing Tool of the affected client machine, the policy file must be manually updated to synchronise the rights on the client.
With unrestricted Internet access and a newer version of the CONNECTION client, the policy file is automatically updated every 4 hours. To manually and immediately refresh the policy, please take the steps outlined below.
Using the 'License Client' item in the CONNECTION Client left navigation menu:
1. Open the Windows Start menu.
2. Type "Bentley Licensing".
3. Select Bentley Licensing Tool from the search results that appear.
Open the executable directly from the file location, which by default is: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Bentley Shared\CONNECTION Client\LicService\NewLicenseTool.exe
Refresh Policy and Reset Policy are available from the Support menu.
Refresh allows the user to manually request a refresh of product entitlements, either because they have expired or have changed due to administrator changes. This is typically not necessary as entitlements are refreshed automatically every 4 hours. Refresh does require that a user be signed in to the CONNECTION Client.
Using the 'License Tool' item in the CONNECTION Client drop-down menu (starting from version 11.00.05.34):
1. Open the Windows Start menu.
2. Type "Bentley Licensing".
3. Select Bentley Licensing Tool from the search results that appear.
Open the executable directly from the file location, which by default is: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Bentley Shared\CONNECTION Client\LicService\Bentley.Licensing.LicenseTool.exe
Process the following: TOOLS > Send Logs Now and then TOOLS > Refresh Policy
If the product application is already open when the policy is refreshed, the changes will not take effect until after the application is closed on the machine.
