Introduction:  The instructions and video below show how to place arrows in OpenRoads SignCAD.

The Arrows group in OpenRoads SignCAD includes the following types of arrows:

Standard Arrow - A straight shaft arrow with a pointed arrowhead that is used for all types of signs. The Arrow Size pick list uses the arrow shaft size (The “A” value shown in the FHWA Standard Arrow Details). The arrow dialog has settings for the Angle, Arrow Size, Length and Fill Color. There is also a Custom option available from the Arrow Size pick list to edit the arrow details.

Up Arrow - A tapered shaft arrow with a rounded arrowhead used for guide signs. The arrow dialog has settings for the Angle, Arrow Size, Length and Fill Color. There is also a Custom option available from the Arrow Size pick list to edit the arrow details including a Round Arrow Head toggle.

Down Arrow - A straight shaft arrow at a 270° angle with a pointed arrowhead that is used for guide signs. It can also be used at plus or minus 15 or 30 degrees from straight down (270 degrees). The arrow dialog has settings for the Angle, Arrow Size and Fill Color. There is also a Custom option available from the Arrow Size pick list to edit the arrow details.

45° Advance Turn Arrow - An arrow with a shaft bent at a 45° angle. The arrow dialog has settings for the Arrow Size, Direction (Left/Right) and Fill Color. There is also a Custom option available from the Arrow Size pick list to edit the arrow details including a Round Arrow Head toggle.

90° Advance Turn Arrow - An arrow with a shaft bent at a 90° angle. The arrow dialog has settings for the Arrow Size, Direction (Left/Right) and Fill Color. There is also a Custom option available from the Arrow Size pick list to edit the arrow details including a Round Arrow Head toggle.

U-Turn Arrow - A curved or loop arrow. The arrow dialog has settings for the Arrow Size, Direction (Left/Right) and Fill Color. There is also a Custom option available from the Size pick menu to edit the arrow details including a Round Arrow Head toggle.

Double Headed Arrow - An arrow with an arrowhead at both ends of the shaft. The arrow dialog has settings for the Angle, Arrow Size, Length and Fill Color. There is also a Custom option available from the Arrow Size pick list to edit the arrow details including a Round Arrow Head toggle.

90° Double Headed Arrow - A two-headed arrow with an upward-pointing arrow and a horizontal arrow at a 90-degree angle. The arrow dialog has settings for the Arrow Size, Direction and Fill Color. There is also a Custom option available from the Arrow Size pick list to edit the arrow details.

Diagrammatic Arrow - An arrow used on guide signs that shows the different lane configurations. The arrow dialog has settings for the Left Lanes Type (Sharp Left, Gradual Left, Straight or Gradual Right), number of Lanes at Left Arrow, Right Lanes Type (Sharp Right, Gradual Right, Straight or Gradual Left), number of Lanes at Right Arrow, New Lane at Split toggle, Left/Right Lane Division Style (Dashed/Solid) and Color, Height (Minimum, Extensible or Specific Value) and Fill Color.

Note: Additional arrows are available from the Templates and Standard Signs including roundabout and arrow-per-lane arrows.
