Overview

This document provides guidance on the heating/cooling coil data in the HVAC Room Equipment section of Hevacomp Design Simulation.

Method

For HVAC systems such as Split Systems and Room A/C Units a cooling and heating coil needs to be defined. These coils require the following data:

• Rated CoP
• Fix rated capacity
• Fix rated air-volume flow rate
• Total cooling capacity modifier curve for temperature
• Total cooling capacity modifier curve for flow
• Total input ratio modifier curve for temperature
• Energy input ratio modifier curve for flow
• Part load fraction correlation for part load ratio

Explanation

The Rated CoP, Fix rated capacity and Fix rated air-volume flow rate simply require figures which should be available from your specifications/manufacturers data. The five other categories are more complicated however, e.g.:

The curves such as that shown above are defined by and used in EnergyPlus (the simulation engine used by Hevacomp Simulator -  further information available here). For example, the above Total cooling capacity modifier curve for temperature is described as:

These curves can be defined by calculating the required coefficients as described in the EnergyPlus Engineering Reference guide, available for download at https://energyplus.net/.

These curves should not be edited unless you have a clear understanding of them, along with valid data to enter.
