How do I filter the built-in cable reports?

Background

If you want to filter the built-in cable list reports such as Cable List or Field Wire List, you should notice there are variable names in the drop down list for filtering that are repeated with different prefixes. The prefixes are:

Therefore, the variable named “T1_Installation” is for the Installation name of the Target 1 device connected to the one end of the cable, where “Cable_Installation” is the variable for the Cable symbol’s Installation name.

At the top of the list are also some variables that don’t have a prefix, such as Installation, Location, and Device Tag. This is a special set of variable names that have OR type logic built into them. The Filter dialog does not allow for user-defined OR type logic so these variable names will apply to both target devices on the ends of the cables.

Steps to Accomplish

Example 1 - Filtering Field Wire List for all connections to cable CAB1

  1. In the [[Run Reports]] dialog highlight the "Field Wire list - Letter".

  2. Select the Filters button.

  3. From the drop down list in the Field column select "Cable_DeviceTag".

  4. For the Relationship column select the equals sign (=).

  5. For the Value column type in "CAB1".

The resulting report should provide a list of all information for the conductors whose Device Tag is CAB1.

Example 2 - Filtering for all cables connected to devices in Installation "A"

  1. In the [[Run Reports]] dialog highlight the "Field Wire list - Letter".

  2. Select the Filters button.

  3. From the drop down list in the Field column select "Installation".

  4. For the Relationship column select the equals sign (=).

  5. For the Value column type in "A".

The resulting report should provide a list of all information for the conductors whose Target 1 or Target 2 device Installation name is "A". Conductors whose Target 1 and Target 2 device Installation names do not match this filter will not be listed. Therefore unused conductors will also be excluded from the report.

Note: To use a wildcard (*) in the Value column, select "Like" in the Relationship column.
