Question:

I have Item Types assigned to my Feature Definitions. When I place graphics with one Feature Definition and then change it to another, it maintains the Item Type from the original Feature Definition and adds the Item Type from the new one as well. I was expecting it to replace the Item Type since I changed the Feature Definition. How do I reconcile this?

Answer:

When assigning a Feature Definition, it is as designed to never remove any existing Item Types or overwrite any Item Type properties. If it did, existing valuable data would be lost if someone accidentally change the Item Type definitions on a FD or incorrectly changed an element from one FD to another. If desired, the existing Item Types can be removed using the Detach Item tool.
