Introduction:  The instructions below show how-to select a standard in OpenRoads SignCAD and create a new file.

OpenRoads SignCAD's built-in database contains federal and state standards that define route markers, arrows, panels and other objects placed on signs. The program includes standards for U.S. Federal, U.S. States, and Canadian Provinces.

The selected standard controls the geometry of the route markers and arrows, including how they are named and which standard sizes are available. Standards also control how panels increase or decrease in size as the border width, indent and radius changes, and which Highway fonts are shown at the top of the Font pick list in the Place and Edit Text dialogs.

Step 1: Open the Software. Find the OpenRoads SignCAD icon on your desktop or start menu and click on it to start the software.

Step 2: Select the Standard and Units. Select the Standard from the drop-down menu and set the Units (Imperial or Metric) for the new file.

NOTE: If you are already working in the program, pick the File tab to access the BackStage and select Open to select the Standard and Units.

Step 3:  Create a new file. Select the New File button located at the bottom of the window, enter a File name and click Save. A new SGN file will display in the Standard and Units specified.
