The last Plaxis 2D version V24.2 includes this new feature:

Input parameters are looking like that know:

But in the Plaxis Manual, the input parameters explanation is partly explained as shown:

It's nevertheless not clear to me what is the input parameter N1,|Mp|. Do you have more explanations?

Can we expect the same elasto-plastic input parameters to be released for Plaxis 3D?

Accepted Solution

Dear Pascal,

We indeed run out of time to have this new functionality in the documentation on time, and therefore some of it is not described yet.

The new elasto-plastic behaviour allows not only that the failure are is asymmetric, but also that the fully plastic bending moment can be reached for a certain axial force and not by definition of an axial force equal to zero. Hence, in the picture you show the failure zone is shifted up or down.  The amount that it shifts is N1,|Mp|: it's the axial force N1 for which the maximum allowed bending moment is Mp.

With kind regards,

Dennis Waterman
