Using Microstation connect update 6, we typically attach either large ecw files or many (hundred) small ecw files. In either case we have found that as we zoom around in the file memory usage keeps growing and growing until an eventual crash of microstation. We have tried MrSid format, however large MrSid files are extremely slow to update. One other thing I have noticed is that after the memory has grown a bit, I can do a compress design file and the memory used by microstation goes down to the initial open amount, only to rise again as I continue to zoom around in the file.
So why do I need to compress out this extra (leaked) memory from my file to keep it from eventually crashing? Why can't it handle it more efficiently?
