1. The New Product Offering
Q: What is changing with the iTwin Capture products?
A: The iTwin Capture Modeler Desktop and iTwin Capture Modeler Center products are being consolidated into a single new offering called iTwin Capture Engine. This new product requires a free prerequisite, iTwin Capture Modeler Flex.
Q: What is iTwin Capture Modeler Flex and how do I get it?
A: iTwin Capture Modeler Flex is a new, free product that is required to use the iTwin Capture Engine. It can be downloaded from the Bentley Software Downloads portal using a Bentley IMS account.
2. Licensing & Pricing
Q: How do existing SELECT subscribers get the new product?
A: Accounts with active SELECT subscriptions automatically received entitlements for the new iTwin Capture Engine without needing to make any payment.
Q: What is the annual cost for the new iTwin Capture Engine?
A: Upon renewal, licenses for the old products will be migrated to iTwin Capture Engine at the new SELECT subscription per license, per year.
Q: How is software usage counted if I use both the old and new products?
A: If you hold a license for iTwin Capture Engine, any usage of either the old products or the new product by a single user on a single machine will be counted as one license use.
3. Migration & Transition
Q: Will I lose access to the old iTwin Capture Modeler after my subscription is renewed to the new Engine?
A: No. After renewing to iTwin Capture Engine, you will continue to have access to download and use the legacy products. This is to ensure you can continue working on ongoing projects. This holds true even for multi-year contracts.
Q: Will the old products receive future updates?
A: No. While the legacy products will remain available for download, there will be no future software releases or patches for them.
Q: What happens to existing contracts?
A: Existing contracts for the retired products will be migrated to the new iTwin Capture Engine at renewal. The new product will become billable on your contract's next renewal date.
Q: I am using iTwin Capture Console to submit processing jobs to the Reality Modeling Cloud Service. What happens to my cloud subscription and access to iTwin Capture Console ?
A: Reality Modeling Cloud Service subscription remains unchanged. However, iTwin Capture Console is being retired. Instead, we recommend our users to move to the free iTwin Capture Modeler Flex client, to create and manage their projects and submit processing to the cloud.
4. Product Compatibility & Usage
Q: Can I open my old projects in the new iTwin Capture Modeler Flex?
A: No. Projects created with the legacy iTwin Capture Modeler or Center products are not compatible with the new iTwin Capture Modeler Flex, and you cannot open or import them into the new software.
Q: How should I manage my projects during this transition?
A: You should continue using the legacy product version for any existing or ongoing projects. New projects should be started using the new iTwin Capture Engine and Flex products.
5. Availability & Timelines
Q: When did these product changes take effect?
A: The consolidation and repackaging were effective from March, 2026, with the new products becoming commercially available that same week.
Q: When do renewals from iTwin Capture Center to iTwin Capture Engine begin?
A: The process for renewing iTwin Capture Center contracts into iTwin Capture Engine is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2026.
Q: When will stop the support of the old products?
A: Legacy products will remain supported through May 4, 2027, allowing ample time for transition.
