Connections can be added to the platform through API, FTP, or direct cell or radio network communication, and can be seen in the Network Page.
Sensemetrics Connections can generally be grouped into two categories, file transfer-based and telemetry-based.
File Transfer Connections are typically set up and configured in other software programs. The Connection is then established, and data is transferred from the external software into the Sensemetrics platform, automatically populating sensors. Examples of such connections include Geomos Leica and Spider, Move Solutions sensors, Viotel sensors, Worldsensing sensors, and Kinemetrics Etna2 Accelerographs
Telemetry-based Connections are added directly to the application. These Connections can be further divided into Gateways, which are responsible for aggregation and transmission of data to the Sensemetrics cloud, and Endpoints, which aggregate and then transmit data to Gateways. Examples of Gateway Connections include Worldsensing Threads and Worldsensing G6 Gateways. Examples of Endpoint Connections include Sensemetrics Strands and Geokon Geonets.
The status indicators are located next to the connections and sensors in the Connectivity Module.
Green Icon- A green icon represents a connection, device, or sensor that is currently connected and actively reporting data to the Sensemetrics cloud. In the case of a Thread connection, this also means that the Thread is either in an Always On setting or that it is currently in its wake cycle of a low power setting.
Red Icon- A red icon represents a connection, device, or sensor that is currently not connected to Sensemetrics cloud or has missed a scheduled sampling interval. A connection, including Threads, Strands, and Geonets, and its associated devices and sensors may also turn red if a power schedule, sampling interval, or reporting interval has been adjusted but the hardware is not currently connected to the Sensemetrics cloud to take the command. Once the hardware wakes up to take the command, the color will change to reflect its current setting.
Blue Icon- A blue icon represents a connection and its associated device. A thread and its connected sensors will be blue if a power schedule is applied and the Thread is currently in its sleep schedule. This is the typical default color for connected Strand and Geonet loggers, as they are low power devices that are scheduled to wake up at set intervals within the "Edit Configuration" page.
Grey Icon- A grey icon indicates a connection, device, or sensor that has been archived, meaning it is no longer actively collecting data, but the previously collected data is still available on the platform. In some cases, a device or sensor can be transferred back onto an active hardware connection to resume collection of data. For information about this process visit this this article.
Note: In some cases, API or FTP connection color status may be misleading. Best practice is to verify connection status of these connections by looking at the sensors "Last:" timestamp on the right side of the Connectivity page.
Connection functions are located either next to the connection or at the top of the connection module.
